Long time Winter Haven resident, Susan Whitehead Hardy, passed away on Saturday, August 25 in Blue Ridge, Georgia at the age of 71. Born in Clinton, South Carolina, Susan moved to Winter Haven when she was 7 years old. She was a member of the original Devilette squad, a Calendar Girl, and graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1965. As a member of Calvary Baptist Church Susan loved singing in the choir. One of her fondest memories of the choir was the musical production she was a part of with Babbie Mason. Susan had a heart that lit up to music and those who know her best are sure she is singing in heaven today. Susan also volunteered at The Mission where she worked to encourage and help so many. The biggest place in her heart was for her 3 girls and all her grandchildren. She was a great listener and always had a way of saying something to make you feel better. She saw the best in everyone. One thing is for sure, Susan loved life “with sprinkles on top”! With her there would always be lots of laughs and much fun. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Susan is survived by her husband, Frank Brigham Hardy. Her daughters, Kim (David) Geiger, of Jasper, Georgia, Michele (Steve) Sherman of Lakeland, Florida, Melanie (Len) Gary of Canton, Georgia. Two sisters and a brother, Gloria Hart of Winter Haven, Mary Slate of Valrico, Florida and Reggie Whitehead of Winter Haven. Twelve grandchildren, Katie Geiger, Lawton Geiger, Mark Sherman, Matt Sherman, Megan Sherman, Mindy Sherman, Malorie Anglin, Josh Sherman, Kyle Sherman, Braden Sherman, Brigham Gary and Halle Gary. Three great-grandchildren, Abby, Mia and Charlie Sherman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Margaret Whitehead.
