John F. Noyen, 74, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019, surrounded by his family.
John, born on December 3, 1944, emigrated from the Netherlands with his parents and sister in 1956 to Grand Rapids, Michigan. He spent his youth learning flawless English, working odd jobs and developing his extraordinary work ethic. Upon graduating from Creston High School, (Grand Rapids, MI) in 1962, he started his career on the Inventory Crew with the Midwest retailer, Meijer, Inc. John held many positions with Meijer, including Department Manager, Lines Manager, Store Manager and District Director, finally rising to the rank of Regional Vice President of Operations, a position he was very proud of having achieved. The family moved several times with the company, having lived in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing and finally Cincinnati, Ohio. Meijer the only company John ever worked for, he retired after thirty years at the age of 48 . Meijer held a special place in his heart his entire life.
The most important part of his life however, was his family. He was a dutiful son, loving husband and wonderful father that enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. His passions included horseback riding, boating, real estate/property management and travel, all of which he experienced in his “retirement.” He enjoyed visiting new places and traveled extensively to Europe and Asia, even completing a 50-day cruise from Florida to San Francisco via Cape Horn. His favorite place to spend time away from Florida was in the mountains surrounding Fairplay, Colorado.
John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janet (Blaske), their two children, son John G. (his wife, LeeAnn) and daughter Heidi R. Gadbois (her husband, Shannon) and four Grandsons; Johnny Noyen, Ryan Gadbois, Nicholas Noyen and Tommy Gadbois. John is also survived by his sister, Jane (Noyen) Jager, her husband Robert and their two sons, Rob and Mike.
A private reception for the family was held on Sunday, August 4th. A Celebration of John’s life will be held during the holidays with extended family and friends.
In remembrance, donations in John’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor New York, NY 10001 or Tidewell Hospice of Charlotte County Philanthropy Department 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238, would be appreciated.
