Foster takes first in Basin Sailing Yacht Club World Championship

STAFF REPORT – The Basin Sailing Yacht Club held its annual “World Championships” on Sunday, April 25 at the Boca Bay Powerhouse lagoon, with local legend John Foster taking the lead amongst many prestigious and worthy opponents.

Racing conditions were typical with shifty westerly breezes, and the heats were close. The final outcome after eight races was Foster in first, Sam Howe in second and Henry Becton in third.

Foster was also recognized with a First Edition of “Wooden Boats for Blue Water Sailors” for his unwavering support of the group and coaching tips.

The BSYC races RC Lasers, which are 1/4 size Laser remote controlled sailboats. Only the rudder and sail can be remotely controlled, and these boats are quite fast and make for exciting racing, with lots of positions changing in any given race.

Sunday afternoons around 3 p.m. is the regular racing time.
