Walter Bruce Yancey Sr. posted Oct 20, 2014 – 3:33:47pm GAINESVILLE – Walter Bruce Yancey Sr., 87, passed away peacefully at Haven Hospice Care Center Oct. 17, 2014, following an extended illness. A celebration of life service will be held privately for the immediate family in the Chapel of Grace at Fort Clarke United Methodist Church. As were his wishes, his earthly remains shall be cremated and placed in a poplar vessel made by his son, Bruce Jr. The burial and graveside service for the family will occur at the family gravesite at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lakeland, at a later date. Mr. Yancey was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Pierson, to Quillian B. Yancey and Arriebelle Maulden. Following his graduation from Lakeland High School in June 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1945. He was stationed in the Philippines, and was honorably discharged in August 1946. Mr. Yancey returned to Lakeland, where he met and married his wife of 66 years, Joyce Furman, in September 1948. After he graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland with a Bachelor of Science in business administration in March 1950, he initially worked in sales with the Florida-Georgia Tractor Co., the Richardson Tractor Co. and the H.F. Mason Equipment Co., selling heavy equipment. In the early 1970s, Mr. Yancey became partner and president of Golden Triangle Asphalt Paving Co. in St. Petersburg, with his wife, Joyce, serving as business manager. Following his retirement, they moved to Gainesville, where he enjoyed visiting with friends, playing the occasional round of golf (and enjoying that rare opportunity of a “hole-in-one” at Haile Plantation), watching the University of Florida Gators in basketball, baseball and football, and spending time with his family and three grandchildren. Mr. Yancey is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter Barbara (Jim) TenBieg; son W. Bruce Yancey Jr. (Judy M.); and grandchildren Tyler Yancey TenBieg, Kali Frances TenBieg and Leah Arrielle TenBieg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Quillian in 1977, and Arriebelle in 1980, and by brother Quillian S. Yancey in 2005. A loving and gentle soul, he lived his life in an honest and caring manner, providing a path for others to follow. A celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at DeBary Golf & Country Club, 300 Plantation Club Drive. Those attending are encouraged to wear purple. Mrs. Preisler taught kindergarten and first grade for 35 years. Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home in Greensboro, North Carolina, was in charge. Jeanne Jones posted Aug 7, 2014 – 11:11:23am DELAND – Jeanne Jones, 67, passed into the loving arms of Jesus Christ Aug. 4, 2014. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Ave. in DeLand. Mrs. Jones retired as a deputy clerk with the Volusia County Value Adjustment Board. Jeanne was an avid computer expert, and loved to take her free time to help others learn. She was always able to help her family and friends with their computer problems. Originally born in New York, she was a longtime resident of Arlington, Virginia, where she and her husband of 50 years raised their family, growing together with their three sons and many friends. They moved to Florida in 2002. Among her many other interests were collecting carnival glass, cruising the Caribbean, and taking many road trips throughout the country. She recently said to her husband, “We’ve been blessed and lucky enough to do it all, haven’t we, Pop?” Jeanne is survived by her husband, Rick; three sons, Rick Jones Jr., Bobby Jones and Jimmy Jones; four grandchildren, Casey Jones and Tyler Jones (and their mom, Michelle), Simon Jones and Oliver Jones; two sisters, Pat Martin and Carole Newman; her brother, Tommy Sclafani; two daughters-in-law, Diana Jones and Lurlene Jones; her Aunt Millie; nephews and nieces; brother-in-law John Martin, and cousins, all of whom she dearly loved. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital Hospice Care, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 304, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
